We all have choices when we see a problem.
Some of us talk about solutions, some of us sit back and watch while the problem gets bigger, and other people, well they just get stuck in and do something about it.
If you want to make your mark by removingother people's, you have the chance with a variety of beach clean-ups happening over the next few days.
The clean-ups are happening all over the region as part of Seaweek, and it's the chance for all of us to do something to make our coastline, estuaries and harbours healthier.
They are happening this Sunday from 9am-noon, at Waihi Beach, Bowentown, Tuapiro Point, Katikati, Matua Shoreline, Maketu and Omokoroa. Wear sensible shoes, and gloves and rubbish bags will be provided.
A river clean-up is also happening tomorrow at the Wairoa River. People are gathering tomorrow at 10am at the Wairoa Bridge. Also on as part of Seaweek are guided tours tomorrow and Sunday. People can walk around the base of Mauao learning about the penguins and wildlife living there. Email: penguinsplus@gmail.com.
Seaweek is an opportunity to learn about and celebrate our connection with the ocean. It is promoted by the New Zealand Association for Environmental Education.
