Circus comes to Tauranga school

A Tauranga school was treated to a special performance from an Australian circus ahead of its Bay shows this week.

Brisbane-based physical circus company Casus held two workshops and a short performance at Aquinas College, yesterday.

Flips, tricks and lifts wowed the crowd before students tried their hand at performing like a circus star.

Leanne Taylor, sponsor of the school visit, said it was "fantastic".

"The kids were full of joy and appreciation," Mrs Taylor said.

"To see 800 kids with their teachers mesmerised by the performers was just fantastic."

Mrs Taylor said the best part of the school visit was students experiencing art in a different medium.

More than 30 students took part in workshops where they learned different acts and balances before putting on their own performance.

The event ties in with Tauranga Arts Festival, which kicks off on Thursday.

Casus performs Finding the Silence on October 22 and 23 at 7pm at Baycourt.
