You know your pet is the cutest - now here is the perfect opportunity to prove it.

The Bay of Plenty Pet of the Year competition launches today and it is your chance to show off your furry, hairy or scaly beloved one to the world.

Send in a photo of your family pet, whether it is a cat, dog, rabbit, horse, pig or even a cow, and the first 120 images will be published in the Katikati Advertiser, Te Puke Times and Bay News on November 5. The public will then have the opportunity to vote on what they think is the Bay of Plenty's cutest pet before the winner's image is published in the Bay of Plenty Times on November 16 and they take away an awesome prize pack worth $500.

Bay of Plenty Times classified sales manager Tara Childs said the contest was a great opportunity for pet owners to get out and about with their favourite animal and grab a new creative shot of them.

"Whether people want to use their phones, a real camera or a Go Pro to capture an epic picture or send in a classic we want to see your pets.

"Get creative - the competition will be put out to public vote so the more interesting the image is the better."

Ms Childs said there was an awesome prize pack worth $500 for the winner including a camera donated by Life Pharmacy Te Puke, and vouchers from Bostock butchery and Paw Prints.

"People really have nothing to lose."
