Fire services attended a car fire on Kairua road, just before 8.30pm last night.

Fire Northern Communications spokesperson Carren Larking said they were called out to a car fire and sparking power lines.

However fire services did not find any damage to the power lines, but did find the car alight.

There was no obvious reason why the car would be on fire, so the matter has been referred to the police.
