Car crashes through Tauranga McDonald's

People involved in a crash in central Tauranga this morning are being treated by St John ambulance officers.

The crash happened at the busy intersection of Cameron Rd and 11th Ave about 9.05am.

Two cars were involved and there were initial reports a person was trapped.

A reporter at scene said a car appears to have spun out travelling south and another car was up on the footpath. It appeared to have crashed through a McDonald's drive-thru sign.

Firefighters were called to the scene to free the person but as they arrived, they realised no one was trapped, fire communications shift manager Megan Ruru said.

Ms Ruru said a person was being treated by ambulance staff.
