UPDATE:/strong> A Tauranga driver had a lucky escape this afternoon when she overshot the intersection of Cheyne Rd and Waterside Drive and her car plunged 10m down a bank above Oropi's Renner Park golf links.
The middle-aged woman emerged shaken but unhurt from the vehicle which was stoppedfrom a much bigger drop down to the links by native bush.
She was approaching the T-intersection with Cheyne Rd when her vehicle mounted the traffic island and continued straight ahead across Cheyne Rd and down the steep bank.
Police at the scene believed the driver hit the accelerator pedal instead of the brake when she mounted the traffic island. They credited her lack of injuries to wearing a seat belt.
