A water supply infrastructure upgrade in Tauranga will begin next Monday and will require the temporary closure of Cambridge Rd.

Tauranga City Council said the closure will continue through to late 2026.

Water pipes located beneath Cambridge Rd are being upgraded to ensure residents have access to quality drinking water, and for the network to better handle population growth and service disruptions, the council said in a statement.

“Regular water supply to properties will not be impacted during construction.

“To get this work completed safely and efficiently, a road closure is required on Cambridge Rd with detours via surrounding routes.”

The council said resident and business access is available during the road closure.

The first phase of construction, between March 16 to August 2026, is between St Andrews Drive to Wakefield Drive.

A detour is available via St Andrews Drive, Castlewold Drive and Wakefield Drive, the council said.
