Omokoroa residents Simon and Robyn Griffiths were happy with the service they received from Classic Builders.

A commitment to returning to make repairs and the willingness to meet customers' needs have resulted in Tauranga-based Classic Builders topping a national survey on customer satisfaction.

Classic Builders achieved higher accolades than any other large New Zealand building company in the New House Owners' Satisfaction Survey.

Kath and Jim McConnachie moved into the home Classic Builders built for them in Katikati in November and were not surprised to learn of the results.

"I'm a retired chippie. To have somebody else building me a house was a bit nerve racking. I have to say I was very pleased," Mr McConnachie said.

"We moved into the house and we noticed we had a faulty toilet. We phoned them up and there was no problem. The plumber came around and gave us a new toilet."

Mrs McConnachie said they were given a building programme before work started and progress lined up exactly with what was expected.

Omokoroa residents Simon and Robyn Griffiths were also thrilled with the service they received from the company.

"What was good for us was that we had a rental property so we had to be out by a specific time and they really pulled out all the stops so we were really impressed by that," he said.

Classic Builders director Peter Cooney said the building industry was no different to any other service industry.

"A house is something that someone lives in for a long time and you're judged on your end performance.

"You're judged on whether you will go back and stand by your workmanship when it's needed," he said.

The company's marketing team called customers three months, six months, a year and two years after construction to check on them, he said.

Mr Cooney said it was also important to stay in contact with customers during the building to make sure they were happy.
