Brother shot by sibling in Eastern Bay of Plenty

Police are investigating an Eastern Bay of Plenty shooting today.

Emergency services were called to the incident where a gun was used on a family member about 2pm.

Police said in a statement: "One brother shot the other in the leg. Both are known to police and the address is also known to police."

The incident happened at an address in Tawera, Whakatane, police said.

"We can add no further information at this stage."

The victim is being flown to hospital by helicopter in a serious to moderate condition, police said.

Detectives are carrying out a scene examination.
