On Wednesday local gardening guru Sandra Simpson will speak at the Bromeliad Club and show slides about her visit to the famous Chihuly gardens in Seattle and her trip up the coast towards Alaska.
Club president Lynley Breeze says the Bay of Plenty Bromeliad club was established in 1995 ata time when bromeliad plants were new to New Zealand and rare.
"They are native to South and Central America and garden centres had very limited stocks and varieties. Joining a club became a way to access a wider variety of plants for the enthusiast, and the club has links with the NZ Bromeliad Society who provide further plants."
The club meets on the second Wednesday of each month 12.30pm - 2.30pm at the Yacht Club at Sulphur Point.
"We have more than 100 members and visitors are always welcome to a meeting and welcome to join the club.
"In addition to the monthly meetings, we have garden visits to local gardens each month over the summer and at least one bus trip away each year."
"We are a very active club, with lots of members and find a shared hobby is great basis for friendship."
