Most children walk, ride their bike or get a lift in the car to school but today Kiwa Ross flew there in a helicopter.
The 7-year-old Tauranga boy won the ride on the TrustPower TECT Rescue Helicopter after winning a colouring competition at the helicopter open day earlier this month.
Kiwa, his brother and two friends were dropped off at the helicopter hangar on 17th Ave and airlifted to Papamoa School this morning.
Helicopter pilot Todd Dunham said they took a scenic route around Mauao and circled Omanu before flying to school about 9am.
Papamoa School principal Phil Friar said school staff and students watched as Kiwa and the helicopter touched down on the school field.
"All the kids were very impressed. Kiwa certainly arrived in good style."
Mr Dunham said it was nice to raise awareness about the helicopter with the children, and said Kiwa loved being taken to school in the "most expensive school bus around".
