Kurt Pickard has warmed up for this month's world championships with a win in the latest round of the USA BMX National Series in Illinois.

The BikeNZ rider finished second on the opening day of finals but claimed victory in the second race to complete an excellent weekend of competition at the Rockford BMX complex.

The Tauranga rider was edged out by American David Herman in the main event on day one but was superb out of the gate and dominated the final on day two, finishing clear of American Nic Long and 2011 world champion Joris Daudet from France.

Fellow Kiwi Matt Cameron missed out on the finals, while both Trent Jones and Marc Willers bypassed the weekend's racing.

Pickard, Cameron and Jones will race in Pittsburgh this weekend before the group head to Europe.

They will met up with Olympic silver medallist Sarah Walker, elite junior Hannah Sarten and coach Ryan Hollows, who have been preparing in New Zealand.

The world championships are in Rotterdam from July 23-27.
