Tauranga building consents continue to track ''very well'' following last year's record breaking effort.

Figures released today by Priority One show both Tauranga City Council and Western Bay of Plenty District Council has tracked successfully this year.

In the first three months of 2016, Tauranga City Council recorded $181.1 million in consents issued - 40 per cent more than the previous high in 2015.

Western Bay of Plenty District Council issued $56.7 million in consents over the same period - 30 per cent more than the previous high in 2007.

Consents for the combined sub-region were valued at $237.9 million for the three month period - 47 per cent more than the previous high recorded in 2015.

In addition, for the month of March, Western Bay of Plenty District Council issued the highest value of building consents than in any other month since Priority One began records in 2003 ($23.6 million).

The council also achieved new two year records for the number of building consents issued (113), the value of consents for new residential builds ($13.1 million) and the number of consents issued for new residential builds (37).
