New Zealand's fastest man has moved his goal setting for 2014 into the fast lane.

Joseph Millar has a clearly defined plan that he hopes will culminate with qualifying for the Commonwealth Games to be held at Glasgow in July.

But to get there the 21-year-old New Zealand sprint champion from Papamoa is going to have to set a personal best time of 10.21 to qualify.

"I have done a 10.21 (wind assisted) 100 which is the qualifying time for the Commonwealth Games and I think I can get that without the wind," Millar said. "I think I can achieve that. It is just about getting the right conditions and getting there injury free."

Millar would love to win his third consecutive 100-200 metres double at the New Zealand Track and Field champs in Wellington next March. The feat has only been achieved once before by former international sprinter Gus Nketia.

"There are a few things I need to do before the Comm Games like the New Zealand and Australian champs. I want to take the NZ 100-200 double for the third year in a row and then go over and win the 100-200 double in Australia and cause a bit of an upset."

Millar ran 10.47 seconds to win the 100m event at the Athletics Waikato Bay of Plenty Open Meeting held at the Tauranga Domain on Saturday. His next appearance on the track suited to fast times will be at the New Year's Day Twilight meeting.
