Club championships for 200m and 800m were held at the Athletics Tauranga Club Night on February 4.

Stephen Te Whaiti won the masters 200m title in the smart time of 26.22 sec and also won the non-championship high jump later in the meet with 1.45m.

Brooke Somerfield won the W17 grade 200m in 26.75 sec after a great tussle with middle distance specialist Jessica Bitcheno, who recorded a personal best for the distance of 26.82 sec.

Charlotte Mangos became the W14 champion with 30.84s and Joshua Tisch the M12 in 31.12s, 400m specialist Matthew Connolly won the M19 800m but was pressed hard by Lucas Fairweather, who finished less than a second behind in second place.

Samuel Tanner M14 won his grade with a meritorious run of 2.15.47 and Arleah Tippens was W14 champion in 2.41.29 and 8-year-old Ian Pugh had a good run to break 3 minutes recording 2.55.91.

In non-championship events, Thomas Conder won the M14 100m to go with his 200m title. Cameron Street M17 won a good 100m from Te Whaiti and Brooke Somerfield just prevailed over Samantha Bitcheno by 0.19 sec.

Russell Lake easily won the 3000m but there was good competition in the high jump with Te Whaiti and Madison McBride W16 both clearing 1.45m, Mangos W14 1.35m and Arleah Tippens 1.30m.
