Police are investigating a possible arson after a car was set on fire in the Bay of Plenty early this morning.

A police spokeswoman said police were called to Pyes Pa Rd between Taumata and Mangatori Rds at 2.15am. The spokeswoman said police were following up with the registered owner to try find out what happened.

No one was in the car at the time of the fire.
