Firefighters tackled a fire that swept through some grass in Welcome Bay this afternoon.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said firefighters were called to the blaze on Ranginui St at about 3pm.

He said the area was around 20m by 20m and no property or persons were damaged or injured.
