A car got stuck on the mudflats near Maungatapu Bridge this morning.

A police spokesman said police received reports of the car stuck near Wikitoria St, about 200m from Maungatapu Marae, about 5.30am.

Police were unaware how the car got stuck and there were no injuries reported, he said.

Kj's Bobcats Diggers & Haulage Ltd manager Hayden Finn said they were called to help with the removal of the car but the tide had come in before they arrived.

"We were about half an hour too late," he said.
