Birds flying from wetlands near Bethlehem could have caused yesterday's power cut in the area.

Powerco Network Operations manager Phil Marsh said birds were suspected to have hit power lines causing the loss of electricity supply.

The suspected bird strike happened at 6.30am and affected about 460 customers.

Supply was restored shortly after 8am.
