One person died following a single-vehicle crash on Te Puke Highway at the weekend.

Emergency services were called to the incident, which also left a person moderately injured, shortly before 10pm on Saturday.

The crash happened on the Waiari Bridge, which is between Te Matai Rd and Jellicoe St as you leave the Te Puke township towards Paengaroa.

The bridge marks the end of a 70km/h zone and the start of 100km/h.

The road was closed for a time and the Serious Crash Unit was investigating.
