ROBOTS, model railways, the Police booze bus and possibly a helicopter will be among the sights at this year's Night Owl Cinema Presents Big Hero 6 community event.

Last year the inaugural event drew crowds of more than 2000 people. Night Owl Cinema's Kimberley Cleland and Christine Sadlier from Creative Events (in partnership with the Matua Residents Association) have organised this years' event at Fergusson Park to bring the community together with a fun family evening that caters for all.

''Kim wanted to take the Night Owl out to the 'burbs' and I was thinking we have this amazing park, so we worked together and the community really turned out and supported it,'' Christine says.

This year's extravaganza is also to celebrate Neighbours Day Aotearoa.

The event is a mixed bag of food trucks, games, police displays and entertainment from Otumoetai Intermediate.

Otumoetai College and the intermediate robotic classes will bring along their robots, which will be on display at the clubrooms. Otumoetai College Robotics Club recently won the National Robotics Competition and are seeking funding support to compete in the World Robotics Competition in the United States in April. The robot themes tie in well with the evening movie, Big Hero 6, Christine says.

There will be a friendly community constable presence with Neighbourhood Support. The Police booze bus will be there for people to have a wander through and a dog handler may be there.

The TECT Rescue Helicopter may make an appearance if they are not called out on a job.

Clubroom groups will have displays, there will be Zumba, the Tauranga Astronomical Society's observatory will be open and robots on display.

Matua Residents Association is hosting some fun classic games such as egg and spoon and wheelbarrow races. Shalom Kindergarten will cater for the little ones with activities, games and a bouncy castle.

The animated robot movie Big Hero 6 starts at around 7.30pm.
