All things classic will be on show in Tauranga this weekend as Greerton celebrates its first Vintage and Retro Fayre.

The fun family day out will offer live music, stalls, high tea and dress-up competitions - all vintage inspired.

Greerton Village manager Sally Benning said even the spelling of fair was transformed to the old-fashioned style to reflect the vintage theme of the event.

Greerton is home to many opportunity and retro-inspired shops.

Benning said the theme reflected the village's retro feel and was "very popular".

Although it was the first event of its kind in Greerton, Benning said feedback from stallholders had been great.

"People can expect to see vintage and classic cars lined up in Chadwick Rd and 40-plus stalls in Greerton Village School selling all things vintage and retro," she said.

Band Gin Rickey Jive will be playing on the Rotunda in the school grounds from 10am to 2pm, performing modern music with a vintage theme. There will also be roving street entertainers, high tea, and a bouncy castle for children.

A vintage dress-up competition will be open to men and ladies at 12pm at the Rotunda, and people are encouraged to get their vintage or retro glad rags on and enter for fun and prizes.

The Bay of Plenty Vintage Car Club will also have cars on display.

Benning said people might also like to bring a chair or a blanket to sit on to listen to the band.

Fine weather, with some high cloud, is forecast for Tauranga on Saturday. However, if the weather becomes too poor to hold the event, it will be held on November 25 instead.
