Labour Weekend is fast approaching and it looks like a bit of rain is on the way. Photo/file

It looks like the clear blue skies and sunshine the Bay of Plenty has been experiencing may be interrupted by a few showers this Labour Weekend.

MetService meteorologist Kyle Lee said the weather should be settled coming into the long weekend as a ridge of high pressure gives way to a weak front on Saturday.

However, Mr Lee said cloud will increase on Friday with isolated showers expected during the afternoon and evening of Friday.

On Saturday and Sunday, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy with isolated showers, mainly in the ranges.

Things are set to get worse as Monday approaches.

"[However] On Saturday and Sunday there should still be some long fine spells in the afternoons, with the showers only about the ranges, so the coastal towns like Tauranga will experience better weather than inland. Whereas Monday, we can expect showers to spread throughout Bay of Plenty."
