A severe weather watch has been put in place for the Bay of Plenty, as heavy rain is expected to hit the area.
It has been reported sections of Tauranga have experienced surface flooding.
In a release, MetService expected periods of heavy rain from last night until Friday morning.
"This
rain could be significant, especially in areas where ground conditions are already saturated."
