People living between Oropi and Tauranga central could have discoloured water this morning.

The discolouration was caused by a fault with a valve in a treatment plant last night, and the dirty colour is due to natural minerals which have built up in the pipes, according to Tauranga City Council.

A large amount of water was pushed through the treatment system to dislodge the minerals.

If residents run their outside tap for five minutes, the colour should clear.
