The new Greerton Library will open to the public tomorrow with a special opening event.
The opening begins at 9.30am and after speeches, Tauranga Mayor Stuart Crosby and local school children will cut the ribbon to the new building.
There will be a number of different events during the day, including a circus performer and story-telling. The Library will remain open until just before 6pm to allow those attending the IlluminART Festival to look around.
Normal opening hours will then be in place from Saturday onwards. Opening hours will be 9.30am till 5pm on weekdays and 9.30am till 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
"The opening of the new Greerton Library is a major milestone for the Greerton community. Tauranga City Council's investment in building the new library recognises the role of libraries as community knowledge hubs and we are excited about the opportunities this new facility offers to the whole of Tauranga", Mr Crosby said.
Tauranga City Council general manager customer services Philip King acknowledged and credited the advice of Ngai Tamarawaho and Greerton Mainstreet in the successful completion of this work.
"A Pou carved by Whare Thompson of Ngai Tamarawaho will stand close to the front door," he said.
