A busy Mount Maunganui road is now open to traffic again after it was closed off due to a gas leak.

A reporter at the scene said emergency services had cordoned off Girven Rd and created diversions for traffic while dealing with a broken gas line.

The cordon was in place for about 20 minutes.

The reporter said it was now clear.
