Tauranga man Ivan Philip Stanbridge died in a crash on Old Te Aroha Rd on Sunday.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash about 3.30pm.
Waikato road policing manager Inspector Freda Grace said he was riding his motorcycle home towards Tauranga when he travelled up over thebrow of a hill where he and a vehicle travelling in the other direction collided.
Mr Stanbridge, believed to be an experienced rider, died of his injuries at the scene, she said.
Mrs Grace said the circumstances of the crash were still being investigated by the serious crash unit.
