At least one person has been arrested following protester action in the Karangahake Gorge today.
Members of the Protect Karangahake group revisited Mount Karangahake to show their opposition to mining in the Karangahake Gorge.
About 25 members of the group occupied a Newcrest Mining drilling site on the edge of
the mountain about midday.
Prior to police arrival, members said they were determined ''and resolute in our commitment to stop this drilling operation''. This was reflected with one of the members sitting on top of a drilling rig to stop its operation.
Protesters also wound woollen yarn around the site barriers as a protest.
