Car crashes into pedestrian island at intersection

Traffic is still flowing at the scene of a two-car collision in Gate Pa this afternoon.

The crash happened at the intersection of Cameron Rd and Munro St, opposite Mitre 10 Mega, about 3.45pm.

A reporter at the scene said one of the cars had collided with the pedestrian island at the traffic light intersection.

The steel safety bars on the island were significantly damaged, she said.

No one appeared to be seriously injured, she said.

The other car was left up on a grassy bank on the side of the road.

Tauranga firefighters and St John ambulance staff were at the scene and letting traffic through.
