Reports of a woman having been stabbed in south Tauranga today sparked a heavy police presence in search of the offender.
Police were called to a serious assault on Oropi Rd just after 8am, when it was believed a woman had been stabbed during an altercation with a man. Police spent time combing through Oropi and Pyes Pa in search of the alleged offender, before it was determined there was no need.
Senior Sergeant Glenn Saunders said police arrived and spoke to the woman, who had not been stabbed or assaulted, and did not require any medical treatment.
''Several police units responded and arrived but determined no such incident took place.,'' Mr Saunders said.
''It was a big nothing.''
