A Bay of Plenty attempted carjacking was featured on reality TV show Police Ten 7 last night.

Police are investigating the alleged attempted carjacking in Papamoa on New Year's Day.

At 2:45pm, the victim was driving along The Gardens Dr toward Domain Rd when a female threw herself onto the bonnet of the car.

The female has then reached into the driver's side of the car and tried to pull the keys out.

She has then violently assaulted the victim while she tried to fight her off.

The female was described as: Maori, approximately 25-years-old and of a heavy build.

The victim noticed she had very bad breath and some form of facial piercing as well as a spikey ring on her right hand.

She was wearing a dark hoodie with the hood up over a white t-shirt which had dried blood around the neck. She also had blood on her face.
