Tauranga District Court.

Tauranga District Court.

A Tauranga man accused of seriously assaulting a woman in her 20s before violently dragging her from the street into a vehicle remains behind bars.

Eddie Delaibatiki, 29, faced six charges when he appeared in Tauranga District Court today via audio-visual link from prison.

That is, one charge each of kidnapping, threatens to kill or do grievous bodily harm, drove while forbidden, escaping lawful custody, and two further charges of male assaults female.

The charges stem from an alleged assault incident which began in Papamoa about 8.15am on March 9 and culminated in Delaibatiki's arrest in Papamoa Beach.

His lawyer Tony Rickard-Simms told Judge Patrick Treston that his client was not in a position to enter pleas today, as he was still waiting for further disclosure from police.

Judge Treston further remanded Delaibatiki in custody by consent to next appear in the same court on April 5.
