A car and truck have collided on State Highway 2 and five cars have crashed on Maungatapu Bridge, sparking significant delays for motorists this morning.

Senior Sergeant Mike Membery said there was a five-car nose-to-tail crash on State Highway 29, on the bridge.

No one was seriously hurt. However traffic was significantly effected, he said.

Emergency services were also responding to reports of a collision between a truck and a car at the intersection of SH2 and Edaile Rd, outside Pahoia School.

Mr Membery said a person had suffered minor injuries and at least one lane of the highway was blocked while emergency services worked to clear the scene.

Diversions are expected to be put in place.

''People can expect delays so we ask people to give themselves a bit of extra time to get to where they are going. There maybe fluid on the road, so people should take extra care,'' Mr Membery said.
