On Monday work will begin to add an additional 119 carparks to the Elizabeth Street parking building in Tauranga.

Some of the parking spaces around isolated pillars will be closed while seismic strengthening takes place on the lower levels.

As work progresses upwards, the existing top level will need to be closed for construction.

Some parking spaces outside the building on 1st Ave will also be reserved for construction activity.

A new lift and automated ticketing will be installed during the build.
