There are many places you expect to hear wedding vows recited but inside ASB Baypark Stadium surrounded by jet sprint boats is not one of them.

But for visiting American couple Chris Bowman and Lisa Waits-Webb there was nowhere else they would rather be for their marriage ceremony held yesterday afternoon before the qualifying races began for today's UIM Jetsprint World Championship finals.

All the competing drivers and navigators were witnesses to a truly unique wedding occasion.
Mr Bowman, who is vice president of the United States Sprint Boat Association, says he and his fiancee Lisa grew up together.

"We have known each other for 17 years and were at competitive high schools growing up. I just got her into the jet sprinting about two years ago and she loves it too," he said.

"I have been involved in the sprint jets for 13 years and the guys from Australia and the guys from New Zealand are awesome. This was a perfect place for us. To come over here and have four countries in one country for a wedding is kind of cool so we are going to enjoy it."
