The current sea conditions have dislodged further geotextile material from the artificial surf reef at Mt Maunganui, with another piece being found at Mauao today.

The piece of geotextile material was about 10 meters long and found off the base track of the mountain.

The Bay of Plenty Regional Council is currently assessing the options for removal, and will reassess the reef as soon as sea conditions allow.

Geotextile material looks similar to carpet and the Regional Council would like to hear from anyone who has observed any of this material on the shore.

To report these sightings please call our Pollution Hotline on 0800 884 883.
