The biggest live annual roller derby event in the Bay returned over the weekend for the ultimate carnage on roller skates.

The skates were on and contenders were geared with helmets, elbow and knee pads as they battled it out in the fourth War of the Wheels event at Memorial Park on Saturday.

Keen spectators and supporters filled the indoor grandstand of the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre to see the sole Bay team Mount Militia Derby Crew battle against teams from Hawkes Bay and Palmerston North.
