Te Puke teenager Ruby Lelievre's dream of sleeping underneath the stars has just come true after winning a bedroom makeover competition.
At 7.30pm tonight on Choice TV's 7th edition of Resene My Dream Room: Kids Edition, the mermaid and supernatural-loving 12-year-old's bedroom transformation, worth more than $10,000, will be revealed.
Ruby's dream of sleeping under a galaxy sunset from a suspended bed was realised after her innovative design was chosen in the nationwide Choice TV and NZ Women's Weekly competition.
The prize included up to $3000 to spend at Harvey Norman's furniture and bedding department.
Choice TV Host Mel Homer, loveable builder John "Cocksy" Cocks, and top New Zealand interior designer Marije Hoornstra went to Ruby's home last month to bring her design ideas to life.
Ruby told the Bay of Plenty Times the results surpassed her expectations.
"It's a pretty cool bedroom. It's every kid's dream come true, for sure," she said.
"It was really fun helping Cocksy build the chaise lounge and helping decorate the chandelier, paint a chair, and filling the bean bags. All the people involved were really nice. I'm a very lucky girl."
Choice TV's Holly Pollock said: "It's been great to see such incredible creativity from the youngsters across the series. Some of their ideas have been real problem-solvers, like the stage that turned into a bed, and others created by Cocksy, such as Ruby's hanging bed.
"All the rooms have provided viewers with some real Kiwi-can-do DIY projects that they can bring to life in their own homes."
