Two young boys were seriously injured in a head-on motorbike collision today.

The Tauranga based Trustpower TECT rescue helicopter was called to a rural property south of Mamaku this afternoon after the boys collided head on while riding their motorbikes.

The brothers aged 7 and 9, suffered serious leg injuries in the crash.

Pilot Liam Brettkelly said the boys had been riding in a paddock when the accident happened.

The boys were flown separately to Rotorua hospital for treatment.
