A Te Puna teenager has been charged with the armed robbery of two men with a plastic cricket bat, during which police say one man was injured after being hit over the head with the weapon.

Caylum Ford, 17, faced two charges of aggravated robbery, and one charge of injuring with intent to injure when he appeared in Tauranga Community Magistrate's Court this morning.

The charges stem from an incident in Bethlehem Rd about 11pm last night where it is alleged two men were approached by Ford and subsequently robbed of their cellphones and wallets.
Police also allege Ford struck one of the complainants over the head with the bat causing a deep cut to his right eye.

Ford did not seek bail today.

He was remanded in custody by Community Magistrate Jack Best.
