A magnitude 5.7 earthquake has rattled the Bay of Plenty.
The quake struck at 10.57pm, centred 20km north-east of Tauranga, at 310km deep.
Hawke's Bay was also shaken this morning, with a 4.4 earthquake registered at Porangahau at 2.42am. It was 50km deep.
Three small earthquakes struck Hawke's Bay yesterday and another at a depth of just 1km struck near Taupo.
GNS Science says a magnitude 3.9 earthquake struck 10 km north-east of Waipawa at 8:14pm last night at a depth of 25 km.
A magnitude 3.6 earthquake hit at 12:26 pm about 30 km south-east of Hastings at a depth of 25 km and at 9.50am a magnitude 3.2 quake was recorded 20 km south-east of Hastings at a depth of 20 km.
And a magnitude 2.8 quake was recorded 20 km north-west of Taupo at a depth of just 1km, which was felt in Kinloch at 3:32 pm
