Two men have appeared in court accused of the aggravated robbery of a Te Puke jewellery store and Katikati's Paper Plus store.
Haere Tawhiti Rex Maney, 22, Rotorua, and Rehua Rakapa Karika Ferris, 19, Manukau, made separate appearances before Judge John Cadenhead in the Rotorua District Court yesterday and both were remanded in custody without plea.
They and two other people, yet to be located, are accused of robbing Te Puke Jewellers on Friday, July 24 of seven rings worth $2000 and then driving to Katikati's Paper Plus where they allegedly robbed $1300 in cash.
Rotorua lawyer Andy Schulze, representing Ferris, said he needed more time to take instructions from his client before applying for bail.
Ferris was remanded in custody to reappear in court tomorrow.
Lawyer Harry Edward told the court he also needed time to go through the police disclosure before he could apply for bail on behalf of Maney.
Maney was remanded in custody to reappear in court on August 17.
Ferris is also facing one count each of breaking into Serious Fun at Tirau on June 16 to commit a crime and stealing a Nissan Terrano worth $6000 from Tirau on the same day.
Ferris is also charged with threatening to kill a woman on June 30 at Manukau.
He also faces charges that while armed with an offensive weapon, namely a shotgun, he robbed Dennis Jensen of $1300 at Katikati on July 24 and the Te Puke Jewellers of seven rings valued at $2000, and that between July 20 and 25, he stole a Mitsubishi Legnun worth $15,000 from Manukau.
