Armed police involved in search of Waimapu Pa Rd property in Poike this morning.

Armed police involved in search of Waimapu Pa Rd property in Poike this morning.

A team of police, including members of the Armed Offenders' Squad, swooped on a Waimapu Pa Rd property in Poike this morning.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Alan Kingsbury told the Bay of Plenty Times police were executing a search warrant, but he declined to reveal the reason for the search.

Kingsbury said police arrived at the property, which is located down a long driveway at the end of Waimapu Pa Rd, about 6.30am.

AOS members were called in to help safely execute the search warrant, and the occupants of the property were still speaking to police, he said.

Some unmarked police vehicles were parked outside the property, with AOS members standing guard at the front entrance.

Kingsbury said he expected the search to be completed by mid-morning.

Tensions were high as upset residents looked on from neighbouring homes.
