Mount Maunganui power cut to Bayfair shops before supply restored

Power has been restored to hundreds of properties in Mount Maunganui.

Powerco said it was investigating the cause of a power outage that affected 741 customers in Mount Maunganui at 11.25am.

Bayfair Shopping Centre was one of the properties affected.

Centre manager Steve Ellingford said the power was out for about 30 minutes.

He said most stores made their own decisions during an outage, with many choosing to close doors for security.

Customers largely waited around the centre, as outages were typically brief, Ellingford said.

He said police were onsite to provide support.

Powerco said power was restored to all affected customers by 12.25pm.
