Fraser Sharp has shown again he is a force to be reckoned with winning a silver medal behind world champion Owen Clifford from Ireland in Belgium over the weekend.
The Tauranga local has been in great form of late. After winning the World Masters Para-Time Trial in Auckland last month, he has followed it up with a bronze medal in the Time Trial in the C3 division in Maniago, Italy last week and now silver in Belgium.
Since his late call-up to the Paralympic team for Rio last year, after controversially being left out of the original squad, he has consistently performed well.
Fraser was rated 6th by UCI before Sunday's race.
"I was confident going into it but not being cocky; I knew the course suited me. But the wind was strong - but same for everyone. I am missing my Weet-Bix here in Belgium," Sharp said.
"The fact we are couch surfing away from hotels and the other athletes, it helped keep me relaxed. I knew Owen would be a tough call as Olympic and world champion but to get 31 seconds off him being an independent and doing it with your father as support is something I am very proud of.
"Other teams and my fellow Kiwi hand cyclists' coach helped. But hats off to the Australian mechanic and the Canadian team who helped me in Italy, both offering mechanical support and trainers where I came third."
Sharp does not receive funding from Paracycling New Zealand.
