American R&B star and actor Trey Songz will perform at Mount Maunganui as part of his first, three-date, New Zealand tour in November.

Trey Songz is a Grammy-nominated artist who is one of the biggest names in R&B today and has worked some of the world's biggest current R&B, hip-hop and pop stars such as Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Drake, DJ Khaled, Diddy, Ty Dolla $ign to name a few.

The self-proclaimed playboy, whose real name is Tremaine Neverson, will perform in Auckland, Wellington and Mount Maunganui as part of his New Zealand tour - which includes shows at Auckland's Logan Campbell Centre on November 3, Mount Maunganui's ASB Baypark Arena on November 6 and TSB Arena in Wellington on November 7.

He has performed sold-out shows around the globe and the New Zealand R-16 tour follows the successful release of his 2017 record, Tremaine The Album - his seventh studio album since he made his debut in 2005, releasing his first album Gotta Make It.

In between the star has released a massive list of hits such as Can't Help But Wait, Invented Sex, Already Taken, Na Na, Slow Motion, Foreign, Bottoms Up and Mr Steal Your Girl to name a few.

Since his arrival on the scene, Songz has achieved three Grammy Award nominations, landed back-to-back #1 debuts on the Billboard Top 200 and staunchly carried a tradition of classic R&B into the 21st century.

Also an actor, Trey Songz film credits include Texas Chainsaw 3D alongside Scott Eastwood and Alexandra Daddario; and Baggage Claim also starring Taye Diggs, Adam Brody, Djimon Hounsou and Christina Milian.

Tauranga promoter Pato Alvarez, from Pato Entertainment, said he and his team had been working at least a year to secure the New Zealand tour and he has no doubt it will be a sell-out.

"The show will sell out for sure. Trey Songz is one of the biggest RNB artists in the world," Alvarez said.

He expects fans from all around the Bay to head to the Tauranga show, which Alvarez said would be a "top level concert" that will feature "his full band" resulting in "a night to remember".

Alvarez said including Tauranga on the tour list was important as he and his business partner Mitch Lowe were Papamoa locals and believed it was a way they could help boost the city's economy.

"We like to push entertainment in our region," he said.
