In the boys play at Bethlehem College, Otumoetai Intermediate held out Northcross going into half time nil all, only to go down for an unfortunate 3-0.
A tight finish is in store at the golf with tomorrow's final round at Mt Maunganui Golf Club expected to be a tense struggle between the top players. Golf organisers described today as "a true tussle", with each of the leading group having problems on one or two holes, testing nerves and self control. Things are all tied at the top after today's round with Harry Hillier of Te Puke and Shaun Campbell of Aquinas both on 242.
The best round of the day was shared by Te Raumati Hawea from Illminster and Stephen Wilding from Heretaunga, with a score of 81.
In the stableford competition, James Golding of Mt Maunganui scored 45 points, to put him in third place overall. Jack Trower of Matamata Intermediate leads the stableford competition with 126 points ahead of Yvarne Carroll from Wairoa on 124.
Madison Gartner of Tauranga Intermediate has a clear lead in the girl’s stableford competition with 121 points over Skylah Pohatu of Gisborne on 112. In the girl’s gross competition Aquinas’s Alannah Campbell leads on 257 from Dayna Morrow-Wilson, Matamata on 268.
The team's competition sees Tauranga Intermediate with 341 points, in front going into the last round with a 3 point lead over Matamata. Illminster is one point back on 337.
The final four teams were found in day three of play at Bayparks TECT Arenas basketball. Glen Eden will play Northcross in the first of the semi finals, while Murrays Bay and local Tauranga Intermediate play off in the second of the boy's semi finals.
Girls semi final basketball action sees Sacred Heart take on Mellville and Kaitao take on Murrays Bay.
Semi finals get under way at 9.00am with the championship games scheduled for the females at 2.00pm and boys to follow at 3.15pm.
In the boys tennis doubles second seeds Reuben White and Matthew Newman from Tauranga Intermediate beat Cobham boys Taylor and Sasha 6/3 6/2 to collect the gold medal. Bronze went to Albany Junior High School's Gregory Vukets and Adbul Al-Majmuei when they beat Connor Oey and Kento Suga from Murrays Bay Intermediate 6/1, 7/6.
The girls gold went to forth seeds Janvhi Clark and Courtney Mitchell from Tauranga Intermediate when they won against Faye Bernicoff and Alexandra Kalachova from Murrays Bay, 6/3 6/4.
Finishing late under lights the bronze went to Shenae Salisbury and Gorgi Van Lienen from Palmerston North Intermediate.
