Competitors let their hair down last night at the NZCT AIMS Games Disco following another day of action across the fifteen sports.

It was a day of draws in the pool play at the football, with all teams seeking a place in tomorrow’s semi finals.  The unbeaten Northcross side drew against Rotorua’s John Paul College while last years runners up Otumoetai Intermediate also had a draw against local rivals Aquinas College.

Visiting side Cobham Intermediate from Christchurch weren’t able to break a three year run of draws against Cambridge Intermediate.  Denis Rhodes led the Mt Maunganui Intermediate boys side in a tough match against Auckland’s Murray’s Bay Intermediate that also ended in a draw.

Mt Maunganui’s female side had more luck winning their pool unbeaten.  They play Northcross tomorrow in what is expected to be an entertaining game, as both teams vie for a semi final berth.

It was the girls turn to take the court today at the Badminton for the start of the singles event.  Early favourites were top seeds Niamh Alley from Pukehou School, Chenise Hibbard-Nitz form Taradale Intermediate and Virginia Gunter form Murrays Bay.

It was Niamh and Virgina who would eventually face each other in the final with Niamh claiming the gold.  While Chinise showed her tournament experience when collecting the medal in the bronze match against Murrays Bay’s, Emma Wu.

Today, the girls take to the court again for the girl’s doubles from 9.00am.

There was plenty of action at the indoor bowls as singles gold medallist Bronwyn McNally from the Berkely Middle School combined with Melita Bargh to qualify in the pairs today.   Silver medallist Cole Walker-Dowie from Kawerau Intermediate combined with Sam Wensor and bronze medallist David Nukunuku from Ilminster Intermediate combined with Leighton Shanks to progress through to tomorrows play.

The standard of Hockey at the turf as been outstanding with semi finals scheduled for tomorrow.Kamo Intermediate takes on Kristin, Otumoetai play Whakatane Intermediate in an all Bay final while St Cuthberts challenge Cobham and Tauranga Tauranga Intermediate take on the team from Murrays Bay.

In the boys play at Bethlehem College, Otumoetai Intermediate held out Northcross going into half time nil all, only to go down for an unfortunate 3-0.

A tight finish is in store at the golf with tomorrow's final round at Mt Maunganui Golf Club expected to be a tense struggle between the top players.  Golf organisers described today as "a true tussle", with each of the leading group having problems on one or two holes, testing nerves and self control.  Things are all tied at the top after today's round with Harry Hillier of Te Puke and Shaun Campbell of Aquinas both on 242.

The best round of the day was shared by Te Raumati Hawea from Illminster and Stephen Wilding from Heretaunga, with a score of 81.

In the stableford competition, James Golding of Mt Maunganui scored 45 points, to put him in third place overall.  Jack Trower of Matamata Intermediate leads the stableford competition with 126 points ahead of Yvarne Carroll from Wairoa on 124.

Madison Gartner of Tauranga Intermediate has a clear lead in the girl’s stableford competition with 121 points over Skylah Pohatu of Gisborne on 112.  In the girl’s gross competition Aquinas’s Alannah Campbell leads on 257 from Dayna Morrow-Wilson, Matamata on 268.

The team's competition sees Tauranga Intermediate with 341 points, in front going into the last round with a 3 point lead over Matamata.  Illminster is one point back on 337.

The final four teams were found in day three of play at Bayparks TECT Arenas basketball.  Glen Eden will play Northcross in the first of the semi finals, while Murrays Bay and local Tauranga Intermediate play off in the second of the boy's semi finals.

Girls semi final basketball action sees Sacred Heart take on Mellville and Kaitao take on Murrays Bay.

Semi finals get under way at 9.00am with the championship games scheduled for the females at 2.00pm and boys to follow at 3.15pm.

In the boys tennis doubles second seeds Reuben White and Matthew Newman from Tauranga Intermediate beat Cobham boys Taylor and Sasha 6/3 6/2 to collect the gold medal.  Bronze went to Albany Junior High School's Gregory Vukets and Adbul Al-Majmuei when they beat Connor Oey and Kento Suga from Murrays Bay Intermediate 6/1, 7/6.

The girls gold went to forth seeds Janvhi Clark and Courtney Mitchell from Tauranga Intermediate when they won against Faye Bernicoff and Alexandra Kalachova from Murrays Bay, 6/3 6/4.
