The people of Te Puke can look forward to plans of a brand new swimming pool and a multi-purpose sport action centre for the kiwifruit district.

In a statement released this morning, the Te Puke Economic Development Group take the reigns on a project to build a new 50m swimming pool with associated aquatic capability and a various sport centre.

In a presentation to community stakeholders in February, Mark Boyle, the chairman of the initial steering committee said the community response was "overwhelmingly positive."

"In the last few months I have spoken to a broad range of people in Te Puke about our vision for a new Aquatic and Action Centre and without exception, the response has been supportive and enthusiastic.

"This project will revolve around the people of Te Puke and community energy to deliver a first class solution for a first class town and district."

Mr Boyle said the it would add substantial value to Te Puke Goodness Grows Here.

The committee involves representatives from businesses, local Maori community, schools, sport clubs and local body politicians.
