Neihana Jeremy Rangitonga will be sentenced on June 23rd.

Neihana Jeremy Rangitonga will be sentenced on June 23rd.

The identity of a 35-year-old New Plymouth man who abducted a woman for sex in Mount Maunganui last month can now be revealed.

Name suppression lapsed for Neihana Jeremy Rangitonga yesterday. In Tauranga District Court he admitted charges of abducting a 21-year old woman for sexual purposes and threatening to kill. He will be sentenced on June 23.

On May 10 the heavily intoxicated victim went to Burger King about 3am to buy food at the drive through. She was refused as she was on foot.

Rangitonga arrived in a taxi, and offered to take her through the drive through and she accepted. They went to Grace Rd in Mount Maunganui where Rangitonga had parked his car.

He drove her back to the drive through and placed their orders, but drove off when told there would be a 15-minute wait.

Rangitonga ignored the woman when she asked what he was doing and headed towards Papamoa. The victim kept asking Rangitonga to stop but he sped up and grabbed her by the hair telling her, "If you don't do as I say I'm going to kill you," and demanded sex.

She opened the door and fought him off before falling onto the road backwards. Rangitonga's car ran over her leg as he drove off.

The victim, who sought help at a nearby house, needed crutches after the attack.
